Earlier this year, Miko Marks released her version of Willie Nelson's classic song 'Whiskey River'. Now, she's premiering the accompanying music video exclusively with Holler. Watch below.
In the video, Marks and Redtone Records' house band The Resurrectors hang around a backroom bar enjoying whiskey before entering the studio to perform the song. Marks' version exudes a bluesy quality that captures the song's singalong spirit.
"For this video we just wanted to have fun in our studio, hanging out and enjoying music", said Marks. "It’s been a hard season for musicians, being isolated from each other. It felt great to be able to be together, laughing, singing, celebrating our love for what we do".
Marks admitted that even though the song is fun to perform — and her vocals make it clear that it is — she never forgets the full message. "It’s a really fun song to sing, even while it’s a sobering story about drinking and heartache", she explained. "For me it’s a good reminder that, while I enjoy a good drink, it’s important for me to keep up with my own self care, and singing good music is a huge part of that".
Marks recently released her new album Our Country — her first in 13 years — via Redtone Records. Although she moved to Nashville in 2003 to pursue music, the industry closed more doors than it opened, hurdles she attributed to the color of her skin.
But Marks didn't let those small minds stop her. She eventually relocated to California, where she's been honing her craft over the years and preparing to claim her rightful place in country music.
