With their single ‘Truck Driver’s Blues’, Cliff Bruner and His Boys’ are often credited with the first ever truck-driving country song when it came out all the way back in 1939. But it was President Eisenhower's administration that introduced the interstate highway system and ushered in the golden age of trucker country in the mid-1960s as commercial long haul truck drivers and the lives they lead out on the road became the new pioneers of the West.

The curious country sub-genre boomed again in the 1970s with the crossover success of CW McCall's 'Convoy' and Jerry Reed's 'East Bound and Down', as truck drivers became unlikely American folk heroes.
