Wynonna Judd has had a year of tragedy and triumph. Since the passing of Naomi Judd, her mother and partner in The Judds, Wynonna has publicly grieved, expressing frustrations with her late mother’s passing, rising like a phoenix from that pain.
After an emotionally charged CMT performance two weeks ago, Wynonna brought her typical wit and charm to Two Step Inn this past weekend (April 16), interacting with the crowd between songs and telling them she loved them back, all while beaming in the warm sunlight.
Wynonna introduced herself as “the artist formerly known as the Judds” and played classics like 'I Saw the Light' while also working in newer music like 'Other Side', her recent single released with Waxahatchee.
With 19 no.1 singles - including those with The Judds - Wynonna is one of the best-selling country artists of all time. It was clear that Wynonna meant business on Sunday evening, eager to reclaim her crown as country’s live music queen, with the crowd eager to usher her back to her throne.
Wynonna is a phenomenon. You can tell as soon as she steps on the stage that she is as familiar with that ground as she is her own home. Her voice, still as powerful as it has ever been, traveled through the Georgetown air like it always belonged there. When you’ve spent almost three-quarters of your life performing, it becomes a part of you; it's as integral as breathing or the beating of your heart. Wynonna is proof of such.
Wynonna provided one of the most remarkable and moving performances of the weekend, acting as the perfect predecessor to Tyler Childers on the Big River stage.
