Mavis Staples and Yola are to kick off the new Spotify show called ‘Duet’.

Launching today (2/18), the series will pair up musicians and celebrities to come together to discuss songs that are meaningful to them. Each week the chosen songs will centre on a particular topic, with Yola and Staples set to discuss the songs that help them through a difficult times.

Future pairings include Nick Kroll and Ayo Edebiri, who will look at songs that calm an anxious mind, Big Freedia and Shangela whose song choices focus on life's pivotal moments, and John Darnielle and Jack Antonoff who look into songs that exorcise pain.

British Americana singer-songwriter, Yola was nominated for three Grammy awards last year for her second album, and contributed to two of the songs on The Highwomen’s self-titled album. Meanwhile R&B and Gospel singer Mavis Staples has had a successful career spanning 7 decades - starting off with her family’s band, The Staple Singers in 1950.

The show will be hosted by Matt Boll, who commented about the series; “The ‘Duet’ team and I wanted to explore music’s unique ability to tether you to a time and place and connect you to the people in your life”.

‘Duet’ will premiere Thursday, February 18th on Spotify. Listen now here.
