In 1984 Willie Nelson and Julio Iglesias bridged country music and Latin balladry when they teamed up for a rendition of this song, which featured on Iglesias’ album ‘1100 Bel Air Place’.

It became a hit on the country, Spanish and all-genre charts at the time.

Now, friend and collaborator of Nelson, Jamey Johnson has teamed up with Raul Malo for a new version of the hit song, recorded as part of the Mavericks’ singer’s ‘Quarantunes’ series.

The two vocalists recorded the track in Johnson’s Nashville studio and a video released with the song showcases the recording process.

In a statement, Malo said “The hardest part of working with other artists is coordinating everyone’s schedules. As difficult a year as our industry has had, one thing that’s been afforded to artists is time.

Jamey and I have been wanting to do something in the studio since we first hung out 10 years ago at the Key West songwriters festival”.

Malo’s ‘Quarantunes' series sees the singer covering timeless classics.

Raul Malo has a run of socially distanced shows coming up in New Jersey beginning February 19th whilst Johnson also hits the road with collaborator Randy Houser starting in Alabama February 19th.
