"We Just All Jumped On It": Joybeth Taylor Tells The Story Behind Ella Langley's 'Choosin Texas.'

In her recent appearance on Ten Year Town podcast, Nashville songwriter Joybeth Taylor tells the story behind co-writing Ella Langley's massive hit, 'Choosin Texas.'

Joybeth Taylor, co-writer on songs such as Langley's hits 'Choosin Texas' and 'Speaking Terms,' got her start in Nashville at age 18 when she moved to Music City to pursue her dreams of being a songwriter.

Her endeavors led her to collaborating with some of country music's biggest stars, such as Gavin Adcock, Lauren Alaina, Koe Wetzel, and Langley herself.

As the story goes, Taylor joined country star Ella Langley on an artist retreat, along with the hit's co-writers to-be, Miranda Lambert and Luke Dick. As the group was settling down one night to eat dinner, Langley asked Lambert about a story she once heard about the long-time country music star, long before they had ever met, and long before Langley was ever shot into stardom.

Somewhere along the way in Lambert's mysterious story, the chorus's opening and closing line, "She's from Texas, I can tell" was told. Riffing, the group of song writers attached a melody to the line, singing the sentence over and over again. Inspired by each other's playfulness with the line that would be essential to telling the song's descriptive story, the group began adding bits and pieces until the first draft of the song was born.

"We just all jumped on it and started writing it," Taylor told Troy Cartwright, the host of Ten Year Town.

According to Taylor, the collaborative track 'Butterfly Season' by Langley and Lambert was written on that very same day as 'Choosin Texas' - and for the songwriter, the 16th track of Langley's 2nd studio Dandelion record still holds a very special place in her heart. It appealed to Taylor's personal preferences more than the lone star state inspired single did.

Told by Langley, and now by Taylor as well, after writing and recording the first demo of 'Choosin Texas,' no one in their writer's group truly knew the depths of success the song would see.

Of course, the writing and recording industry possesses a seemingly unpredictable nature though. Often times, the songs writers tend to gloss over or pay little to no attention to receive the biggest thumbs up from fans.

The worldwide hit just saw its 23rd consecutive week on top of the Billboard Hot 100, making the song the longest-running No. 1 hit in the chart's history. A feat such as this shows that in the country music industry, it's difficult to truly see how the future of any project will play out - and for song writers Ella Langley, Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick and Joybeth Taylor, how their careers are forever elevated all because of that one night at the dinner table.
