All the lyrics, meaning, and background behind 'Us Again' by Gavin Adcock ft. Treaty Oak Revival.

The Background:

'Us Again' serves as the 6th track off Gavin Adcock's 4th studio album, The Day I Hang It Up. The album brings out Adcock's true collaboration potential, with tracks such as this, along with 'Cheap Thrills' (Hudson Westbrook) and 'Save My Breath' (Ernest) being his three feature songs for the record.

Both Adcock and the genre-bending country band Treaty Oak Revival pitch a certain look and sound to their respective audiences that seem to complement one another. Call them outlaws, rebels, honest men, or just straight up partiers, these two constantly produce songs that seem consistent with their last.

Which is why it feels like there's no question surrounding the logic behind bringing Adcock and Treaty Oak Revival together for a song, one where they can both bond over shared musical visions and introduce one another to a few of their own.

The Sound:

'Us Again' begins with casual, quick, and controlled strumming on an acoustic guitar. Then, the quick electric sound of a ringing amp plays over, introducing those Treaty Oak elements early on. Multiple guitars and drums play over the track, with sounds somehow similar to what Adcock, Treaty Oak, and 2000s rock bands respectively produce.

The sound itself is one that feels moderate, but in the best way. It feels as though Adcock and Treaty Oak found the perfect opportunity to both mesh their sounds and keep it calm enough to tell a story and display their vocals. 'Us Again' sounds like perhaps one of the first of many Adcock and Treaty Oak collabs, as the artists dip their toes in the type of music they could produce together.

The Meaning:

Gavin Adcock and Treaty Oak Revival's 'Us Again' is the country artists take on an age-old tradition of toxic relationship songs. The song takes listeners through the very beginning of our protagonist's breakup with his now ex-girlfriend, and how he misses her as she refuses to admit the same. He gives what he knows to his core to be the ex-girlfriend's feelings about the split, such as her own grievances over him yet the unwillingness to reach out to him herself.

Our protagonist describes in creative detail that, no matter how much the two may feel inclined to avoid each other completely, he knows that no matter where the two go, or what they do, one or both of them will break eventually, and they will wind up back together again. But a loss may still be a win / We can take it all on the chin / Well you can give it a try, but in the back of my mind I know we’ll wind up us again / I know we’ll wind up us again
