On January 24th 2025, the news we'd been anxiously awaiting finally dropped, with Morgan Wallen confirming the title of his new album, I'm the Problem. The title-track - the same song Wallen teased more than a year ago, although that was speculatively named ‘I Guess’, at first - was made available on Friday, January 31st.
A sprawling I'm the Problem Tour was unveiled in tandem with the album and title-track news, with Wallen headlining stadiums in Texas, California, Florida and more. He'll be joined by a top-tier cast of artists: Brooks & Dunn, Miranda Lambert, Thomas Rhett, Koe Wetzel, Anne Wilson, Ella Langley, Corey Kent and Gavin Adcock.
Throughout subsequent months, Morgan Wallen has been teasing us with an array of cryptic clues and hints regarding his new album, with Wallen sharing a photo from the studio with HARDY, as well as a black-and-white image of some unreleased song lyrics.
Excitingly, on February 24th, Wallen treated us to a snippet of a moving new track he's written for his son, ‘Indie’, titled ‘Superman’, which is set to feature on I'm the Problem. Soon after, we got a clip of another evocative track, ‘I'm a Little Crazy’.
Both follow in the raw, soul-baring vein of ‘Smile’ and ‘I'm the Problem’, with Morgan Wallen underlining what he's been suggesting across his releases so far - that I'm the Problem will find him digging deeper than ever before into his vulnerable side.
On March 21st, Morgan Wallen confirmed I'm the Problem would be dropping on May 16th, which coincides with the opening day of Wallen's inaugural Sand in My Boots Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama. To celebrate the unveiling, the ‘Love Somebody’ chart-topper treated us to two new tracks, ‘Just in Case’ and ‘I'm a Little Crazy’.
A few weeks later, we got the blockbuster ‘I Ain't Comin’ Back’ with Post Malone, marking the duo's long-awaited follow-up to 2024's summer anthem, ‘I Had Some Help’. Then, Morgan Wallen revealed the full 37-song tracklist for I'm the Problem, with pop phenom Tate McRae making her first foray into country on ‘What I Want’.
In addition, we've got duets with some of Morgan Wallen's closest buddies in the industry, Eric Church, HARDY and ERNEST, to look forward to. Wallen teams up with Church for ‘Number 3 and Number 7’, while HARDY joins him on the rowdy ‘Come Back As A Redneck’. ERNEST completes the feature-list, appearing on ‘The Dealer’.
Expectations are high following the chart-dominating and record-breaking success of his 2023 project, One Thing At A Time, which was Spotify's most-streamed album of the year.
Before Morgan Wallen unveiled the name of his new record, a few fans hypothesised that the project may be called Dark Til Daylight, due to this being the name of the fictional talk-show in the ‘Smile’ video. There was an unreleased song registered on the ASCAP repertory penned by a couple of Wallen's go-to collaborators, Rocky Block, who co-write ‘Smile’, and Chris Tompkins, who worked on ‘Lies, Lies, Lies’, along with prolific country songsmith, Jimmy Robbins.
‘Dark Til Daylight’ appears on the I'm the Problem tracklist, and given its prominence in the ‘Smile’ visuals, we suspect this will be a significant song on the project.
In a rare interview with Theo Von's This Past Weekend in the lead-up to I'm the Problem's arrival, Morgan Wallen endearingly revealed that ‘Eyes Are Closed’ holds a special place in his heart, as it was the first song that his son, Indigo, told him he really liked.
The protagonist's eyes might be closed in that song, but it's safe to say that at the moment, Morgan Wallen has more eyes and ears focussed on him than ever before. Following the colossal all-genre success of ‘Last Night’, ‘I Had Some Help’ with Post Malone and latterly ‘Love Somebody’, a blockbuster world tour and link-ups with the likes of Drake, Lil Durk and Moneybagg Yo, this is shaping up to be the album that officially cements Wallen's status as a modern-day crossover titan.
