Deeper Well – the fifth studio album to come from country superstar Kacey Musgraves, co-produced and co-written by the GRAMMY Award-winner herself – hit all music streaming services on March 15. With hits like ‘Deeper Well’, ‘The Architect’ and more, it has been championed as one of her best projects yet, detailing the changes she has experienced in her life after the age of 27 – such as diving into her spiritual side – in an extremely euphoric way.
While some songs off Deeper Well have achieved more streaming success so far, a sleeper pick off of the album is ‘Jade Green’, a Fleetwood Mac-esque track that has caused quite a bit of chatter via X (formerly Twitter), serving as a unique song that discusses the holistic benefits of jade stones and moon bathing.
“I need to know what Kacey put in ‘Jade Green’ because I physically can’t stop playing it on repeat,” one fan admitted.
“Kacey Musgraves should have never written ‘Jade Green.’ It is making me too powerful,” a second shared.
‘Jade Green’ features slightly more country twang than some of the other songs on Deeper Well, with jangling guitars and an overall sound reminiscent of Stevie Nicks. Pivoting around an oh-so catchy tune throughout, ‘Jade Green’ is sure to have your hands clapping and your toes tapping, leaving you feeling like a warrior when its nearly three-minute runtime comes to a close.
“I wanna bathe in the moonlight
Until I'm fully charged
Come into my power
And heal the broken parts
That I carry
Mm”
‘Jade Green’ takes a deep dive into Kacey Musgraves’ spiritual side, with the ‘Cardinal’ singer-songwriter crooning about the holistic benefits of jade stones and moon bathing. The latter is referenced in the opening verse of the tune – utilizing the lines “I wanna bathe in the moonlight / until I'm fully charged” – prior to delving into the jade stones in the second verse and the chorus.
“Like the bracelet that you bought me
I want you on my arm
Calm, cool and protected
And keepin' me from harm”
Transitioning away from moon bathing, the second verse discusses the benefits that come with jade, a protective stone that is known for “guarding against accidents and misfortune, while also blocking negative influences and discouraging harmful decision-making,” as well as reducing overall stress and tension. This calming nature of jade – which is revealed to be in bracelet form in this song, exemplified in the first line – is reinforced in the second verse through the lines “Calm, cool and protected / And keepin' me from harm”.
“Jade green
Jade green
I always keep it on me
Always keep it on me”
The chorus is the first time Musgraves reveals her bracelet is made from jade, explaining that she wears it at all times, presumably due to the holistic benefits listed above. Later on, the listener learns that she does not only wear it for this reason, but also due to her strong connection with the person who gifted it to her.
“I can't help it, I get anxious
And every time we part
I say a little prayer
To drive away the dark
And I'm with you and you're with me
Like the bracelet that you gave me”
In the third verse, Musgraves shares that she feels just as tied to this jade bracelet as she is to the individual (seemingly a love interest) who bought it for her, highlighted in the final two lines – “And I'm with you and you're with me / Like the bracelet that you gave me” – which are followed by the concluding second chorus. The bracelet becomes a metaphor for the couple's enduring connection.
“[Verse 1]
I wanna bathe in the moonlight
until I'm fully charged
Come into my power
And heal the broken parts
That I carry
Mm
[Verse 2]
Like the bracelet that you bought me
I want you on my arm
Calm, cool and protected
And keepin' me from harm
[Chorus]
Jade green
Jade green
I always keep it on me
Always keep it on me
[Verse 3]
I can't help it, I get anxious
And every time we part
I say a little prayer
To drive away the dark
And I'm with you and you're with me
Like the bracelet that you gave me
[Chorus]
Jade green
Jade green
I always keep it on me
Always keep it on me
On me (on me)
On me (on me)
Mm, on me”
