'Drunk Love' by Ty Myers – Lyrics & Meaning

Newcomer Ty Myers has been steadily inundating us with hit after hit, readying himself and his fans for his highly anticipated full-length debut album, The Select, and for what is undoubtedly poised to be his breakout year.

The upcoming 16-track project, which arrives on Jan. 24, will feature previously released offerings like 'Ends of the Earth', 'Worry Is A Sickness', 'Let 'Em Talk' and 'Can’t Hold Me Down', as well as one more certifiable smash, 'Drunk Love'.

Dropping Friday (Jan. 10), the intoxicating new song, with its brutally honest lyrics and sweeping soundscape, comes just in time to leave us ravenous for more.

'Drunk Love' comes fitted with a simple melody but one that swells and sweeps throughout the song, mirroring the young star's emotive words. Blooming from a wash of subtle strings and pillowy rhythms, the arrangement echoes the tune's forlorn and fed up lyrics – building high just to burn low – making for a succinct soundtrack of the end.

Are all indicators of a good time the night before"

From the beginning, 'Drunk Love' finds Myers seemingly hungover. Perhaps not in the literal head-spinning, stomach-churning sense, but in the romantic sense, waking up in the haze of something that was highly consequential, and in the end, deeply unsatisfying.

Among the scattering of clothes and remnants of a good time, all Myers finds is a broken heart, unfulfilled in the events that took place the night before.

The song's second verse seems to reveal more, the artist and his lover having agreed to take time apart just to reconnect over a bottle of tequila. He sings, "We both said that we would give it time / Cuervo has a way of cloudin' minds," assuring listeners that "It wasn't supposed to go this way / And you can't chase this kind of pain with a slice of lime."

The next morning, with an unclouded head and sobered heart, he realizes:

Whenever these two people get together, they seem to only play with fire, stringing each other along and toying with one another's emotions. In the song, Myers seems to put his foot down, finally seeing how unhealthy these interactions are.

They were supposed to be done with each other but have instead merely prolonged the inevitable: the end. And, ultimately, the artist decides, what feels like for good, that "I'm tired of drunk love."
