Ty Myers - ‘Ends of the Earth’

Release Date: October 18th, 2024

Songwriter: Ty Myers

Producer: Brandon Hood

Chart Performance:

  • Top 10 on Spotify Viral 50 USA

The Background:

Such is the enigmatic and often elusive nature of today's TikTok algorithm, that the secret recipe for a viral country single seems to shape-shift and move with each passing day. You might have it firmly in your hands one day, before it slips your grasp the next. However, if you want to ask anyone how to crack the code, you'd be hard pressed to find someone more tuned-in than Stephenville, Texas singer-songwriter, Ty Myers.

Usually, up-and-coming artists are more than content with one viral smash in the space of a year, but after securing a hit in the form of his playful single, ‘Drinkin’ Alone’, Myers wasted no time in working his social media mastery once again for ‘Ends of the Earth’.

Ty Myers shared an array of teasers in the lead-up to announcing the highly anticipated track's release date in October, with the intricate love-song quickly surging into the Top 10 on Spotify's Viral 50 USA playlist less than a month after it was made available. At the time of writing, ‘Ends of the Earth’ has been used for over 90,000 TikTok videos.

The Sound:

The composition is kept tantalisingly sparse throughout ‘Ends of the Earth’, with Ty Myers’ soulful vocals combining seamlessly with a staccato electric guitar riff. It gives the track an almost Stapleton-esque ambience, with the stripped-back, sensual rhythm of the instrumental enhancing the enchanting intimacy of the atmosphere.

The Meaning:

“From the silence of the speakers

To the bow in your hair

To the sweet smell of perfume

That's hoverin' in the air

To the faintest of moonlight

Peakin' through the blinds

To the feelin' of new love

That's yet to be tried”

Ty Myers begins by painting a blissful, rose-tinted image of his partner, underlining how the mood is perfect for a romantic evening - from the sweet bow in her hair, right down to the delicate moonlight shimmering through the closed blinds of the bedroom.

It seems this is a new romance, with the encounter accompanied by both a sense of excitement at the prospect of their burgeoning relationship, as well as a feeling of uncertainty regarding how committed the woman is to our protagonist. The line, “To the feelin’ of new love / That's yet to be tried” captures this beautifully.

“But I'm gettin' pretty tired

These little games you play

Where we get so damn close

But you, you up and walk away”

Here, following the wide-eyed adoration of the opening verses, we get a stark piece of juxtaposition, as Ty Myers expresses his frustration at the ‘little games’ his lover is playing. It appears the narrator feels as though she leads him on, and then discards him, before beginning the cycle all over again. Nonetheless, as the proceeding chorus emphasises, Myers remains more dedicated to her than ever.

“To the ends of the Earth, I will

I'll follow you where the

Horizon meets the sunrise, if that's

Just what you choose to do

If you choose to love me or if you

Choose to leave again, yeah

'Til the ends of the Earth

I'll be your man, oh-oh, oh”

The track pivots around the famous Biblical phrase, ‘To the ends of the earth’, which is used to highlight that you'd be willing to stick loyally by someone's side regardless of the hurdles or the distance you'd have to go. Ty Myers stresses, though, that the decision is ultimately up to his partner as to whether she wants to let him in.

“You're my one and only

The true cream of the crop

You're the whole sundae

And the cherry on top”

Despite the woman apparently blowing hot and cold, Ty Myers makes no attempt to hide his unwavering love for her, as he lovingly depicts his lover as “the true cream of the crop”. Somewhat amusingly, the narrator then extends the cream-based imagery and describes his lover as “the whole sundae / And the cherry on top”.

“But you invite me in

Just to close the door

You got my heart chewed up, spit out

And broken on the floor”

The flurry of contrasts continues here, as Ty Myers shakes his head in disbelief as the woman again invites him into her heart, before abruptly slamming the door in his face before he enters. He viscerally outlines how this has left him feeling utterly heartbroken.

Unfortunately, we don't really get any clear resolution or indication as to whether the narrator's girlfriend chooses to stay or leave - but we like to think they end up working things out.

What has Ty Myers said about ‘Ends of the Earth’?

In mid-October 2024, after teasing ‘Ends of the Earth’ across his socials, Ty Myers confirmed that he'd taken some time in-between dates on his Let ‘Em Talk tour to record the long-awaited track, teasing, “Took a tour break to go to the studio…”. Shortly after, Myers posted a promotional clip of him jokingly trying to persuade his team to let him release ‘Ends of the Earth’ early, due to the immense fan demand.
