Charley Crockett has dropped the official music video for his 2022 track, ‘Odessa’. The video aligns with Crockett's refreshingly traditional-leaning aesthetic, consisting primarily of grainy, DIY studio footage.
For much of the music video, Crockett wields the lyrics sheet in his hand while singing passionately into the microphone. The VCR camera occasionally cuts to members of Crockett's band, The Blue Drifters, who are in the session with him.
The Man From Waco is Crockett's first album on which The Blue Drifters are accompanying him from the first song to the last.
‘Odessa’ comes at a crucial point in the chronology of The Man From Waco, which details the protagonist's tussle with grief and guilt after shooting his wife by accident, after finding her with another man.
‘Odessa’ finds Crockett's character at his lowest, crooning, “I’ve got Odessa on my mind, I stay worried all the time/Wish I didn’t hurt so much, but I don’t have that kind of luck”.
The video offers fans a fascinating glimpse into the process behind The Man From Waco.
Crockett often embodies a persona as mysterious as the album's titular character, but he nonetheless regularly opens up channels of access between himself and his fans through videos such as these.
Charley Crockett recently kicked off a jam-packed December run of live shows, as well as announcing his first ever Australia tour for 2023.
Texas' genre-fusing maverick is also set to perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live on December 8, as he continues to enjoy a highly eventful and successful 2022.
