Rain has been inspiring country singers and songwriters for as long as there have been cloudy days in Music City, and now one of Georgia’s finest has been soaked through in an unexpected emotional downpour.
It’s all blue skies and sunshine outside on Tyler Chambers new single, but inside his heart it’s absolutely tipping it down. There’s a category five hurricane blowing his way and he’s about to be standing in the eye of it. There’s lightning crashing around his living room and thunder knocking the pictures off the walls as he reels from the effects of his wife leaving him out of the blue.
Nothing for it when the weather’s as bad as this. Might as well just lie in bed and soak it all up and let it all out with a bottle of whiskey.
“I wrote this song on a writer's retreat with some of my best buddies, Dylan Marlowe, Zach Abend and Dallas Davidson,” Chambers told us about how the song came about. “We were writing for my upcoming EP and spent the weekend at Dallas’ farm hunting turkeys and fishing - things that we all love to do. I think that that helped us write songs that were me through and through. I think we nailed the twist on the old rhyme.”
‘It’s Raining’ is the latest single from the singer who grew up in the rural Georgia town of Douglas, surrounded by the serenity of a country lifestyle, before moving to Wyoming and then on to Nashville in 2016 to pursue the dream that had always been in the forefront of his mind.
“Picking up the guitar for the first time was a lifestyle thing for me,” he says. “I grew up in the country, and I was on a tractor every day. At every turn, country music was tugging at me, and I really valued the way of life in a small town - the values, the morales - I loved music in general, and I feel like I was intentionally submerging myself in it, too. I knew if there was something I wanted to be good at, it was country music.”
The follow up to previous singles, ‘Loves Me Like a Small Town’, ‘Best Damn Beer’ and the feel good ode to the rural life he grew up surrounded by, ‘Dirt Road for Days,’ ‘It’s Raining’ is the kind of song you can immediately imagine blasting out of a set of stadium speakers somewhere with an adoring crowd singing along at the tops of their voices.
