They say don't meet your heroes. However, Zach Top recently did and it likely made for a moment he'll never forget.
During his set at Forth Worth's iconic Billy Bob's Texas, the 'I Never Lie' star welcomed country legend Randy Travis onto the stage for a special serenade of one of his classic songs.
There, under the spotlight, Top performed Travis' beloved 1986 hit, '1982'. Fan-captured footage shows a tearful Travis swaying along to his endearing tune as Top gives it his all.
"Honored to get to meet Mr Randy Travis and sing one of his songs for him," Top shared in a post on social media following the showcase, adding, "Living legend."
Since Top emerged on the scene with his Neo-traditional country sound, he has regularly been likened to stars like Travis, George Strait and Keith Whitley. He even cites such '90s heavyweights among his myriad influences.
For many of today's stars, Travis, with his smooth baritone and approachable gospel-tinged country sound, was a gateway drug to the genre, and many have taken the time to honor his influence on their own careers. Lainey Wilson, Zac Brown, Zach Bryan and more have been sighted sharing special moments with the icon over the last few years.
The ‘Forever and Ever, Amen’ hitmaker himself suffered a stroke in 2013, something that has inhibited his speech and therefore his ability to sing, but that hasn't stopped the star from sharing in these celebratory occasions or even releasing new music.
Earlier this year, with the help of AI, Travis was able to release 'Where That Came From', his first song in over a decade.
