Zach Bryan has shared an acoustic rendition of another brand new unreleased song via YouTube, titled ‘Walk Backwards’, ahead of the ‘Something in the Orange’ singer-songwriter's forthcoming EP, Young Manhood and Other Donatable Organs.

On the track, Bryan reflects, “A knife inside my back feels so familiar / Reminds me of the river / Cold and hard pocket-blade / This is how you walk backwards / Everything I ever said, I said in reverse / Everything I ever said, I said in reverse / Everything I ever did, hell, what's it all worth? / Living life and learning how to walk backwards”.

It follows a protagonist who is struggling with trust issues, with a jaded narrator observing, “And I don't trust anyone, anymore, lover / They all want money or anything other”.

‘Walk Backwards’ has not been officially confirmed for Young Manhood and Other Donatable Organs, with Bryan seemingly testing it out on fans to gauge their response first.

By contrast, Bryan's previously shared tracks, ‘Lodi When’ and ‘Better Friends’, are set to appear on the eagerly anticipated new EP, with the Oklahoma native confirming they would be a part of Young Manhood and Other Donatable Organs via their respective captions. It's worth noting that both of those songs have since been taken down from YouTube, perhaps signalling that the EP's arrival is close, with Bryan's label potentially wanting to save them both until the official release.

Naturally, given how ‘Walk Backwards’ explores a betrayal and feelings of hurt over a past relationship, some have speculated that Bryan is referring to Brianna LaPaglia on the song, in light of his ex's comments via a recent TikTok video claiming he failed to come out at Fenway Park with Noah Kahan in 2024 due to being hungover.

This is just conjecture, though, and any fan of Bryan's is well aware that he often conjures up visceral imagery and compelling tales that aren't at all based on his own life. Either way, new music from the country-folk hitmaker is always a cause for celebration, and we're keeping our fingers crossed his latest EP is on the horizon.
