The country music industry has been famously slow to embrace more contemporary modes of listening, such as streaming, with many in Music City still championing Radio as the ultimate tastemaker. However, as that somewhat outdated approach softens and today's country hitmakers continue to fuel a streaming boom, more and more hits are making their way into Spotify's Billions Club.

For instance, originally written and released in 1991 by Tom Cochrane, ‘Life is a Highway’ changed country music as we knew it - but only once it had been recorded by Rascal Flatts in 2006 as part of the high-profile soundtrack to Disney Pixar’s Cars.

In 2026, that hit joined songs such as Chris Stapleton’s ‘Tennessee Whiskey’ and Morgan Wallen’s ‘Last Night’ in making history by surpassing one billion streams on Spotify. Shortly after, Darius Rucker's rendition of ‘Wagon Wheel’ - penned by Old Crow Medicine Show's Ketch Secor - became the 18th member of the club, with Luke Combs’ iconic cover of Tracy Chapman's ‘Fast Car’ joining it a week later.

Other artists in Spotify's prestigious Club include Zach Bryan, Dan & Shay and Taylor Swift. Many of them, though not always primarily country, made their way into the list of seventeen by featuring on or taking the feature of country artists, such as Bebe Rexha’s ‘Meant to Be’ ft. Florida Georgia line and Post Malone’s huge transition record into the country world, ‘I Had Some Help’ with Morgan Wallen.

Some tracks will be remembered for the records broken in the 2010’s and 2020's, some are as timeless as ever, while others, like ‘Life is a Highway’, are only now getting their well-deserved Billions Club spot after years of molding a 21st century country age.

Given the fact that over 1,300 songs have made it into the Spotify Billions Club, it's admittedly disappointing that only 19 of those are country songs. But we're sure this number will quickly grow thanks to modern chart titans such as Wallen and Bryan.
