During a new interview, Luke Combs has toasted his good friend, Post Malone, with the North Carolina hitmaker discussing their Nashville songwriting sessions. Interestingly, Luke Combs has also hinted at more music to come from them.
In a conversation with CMT, Luke Combs paid tribute to the endearing warmth and joyful nature Post Malone exudes, “I mean, he's so nice. He's an unbelievable guy. You can't help but be happy around him, to be honest. He's just in such a great mood all the time - you know, at least when I'm around him, I'm sure he has his moments like everybody else. But he's just so welcoming to anyone and everyone”.
Luke Combs and Post Malone dropped their long-awaited collaboration, ‘Guy For That’, on Friday (July 26), with the duo accompanying it with a hilarious set of visuals that find the two artists stepping into port-a-potties, only to emerge in the middle of Broadway.
When Luke Combs and Post Malone teased ‘Guy For That’ earlier in July - following a tantalising initial snippet in February - Posty suggested they have a second duet that's also expected to feature on his new album, F-1Trillion, which drops on August 16th.
When Luke Combs asked “We doin' this or what, @PostMalone?” alongside a clip of ‘Guy For That’, Post Malone commented, “Okay, FINE, but you like this more than the other one?!?!”
Excitingly, judging by Luke Combs’ new remarks to CMT, it looks like he's written a whole host of songs with Post Malone. He recalled, “Those songwriting sessions were really, really fun. I think the thing for me was sometimes here in Nashville, we can be so structured and rigid, like, ‘We're writing at 11 o‘ clock and we're leaving by this time”...It becomes this like 9 to 5 kind of job sometimes’”.
He expanded, “His were like, ‘We're starting writing at 8 o'clock at night, and then a lot of times I'd leave at 3, 4 in the morning and we've written four or five songs, and we did that five or six times at least’. By our calculations, if Luke and Posty wrote “four or five” songs together “five or six times”, this means they're sat on 15-20 tracks.
From what they've said so far, it looks like Luke Combs is set to feature on two songs on F-1Trillion, with one being ‘Guy For That’ and the other under wraps for the time being. As a result, it seems that either Luke Combs and Post Malone are planning to hold back the rest of the music they wrote together for now, or perhaps some will appear on the album as solo cuts, with Luke only credited as a songwriter.
If they do indeed have 15-20 songs up their sleeves, even if you take away ‘Guy For That’ and their other mysterious collaboration, that still leaves at least 13 unreleased songs in store.
We don't want to get ahead of ourselves, but 13 songs is an album's worth of material. Could we be getting a Luke Combs and Post Malone collab record? Stranger things have happened, and Posty admitted during a 2023 Twitch stream that he's been working on two albums simultaneously. Given the chemistry that radiates throughout ‘Guy For That’, this is a project we'd certainly be keen for.
