Tim McGraw made a young fan's night during his Michigan show, when - with a little help from his friend, Luke Combs - he gave away a guitar. McGraw has been gifting a guitar from a local store at every concert this year, in honour of his 2026 Pawn Shop Guitar Tour, in the hope of inspiring a child in every city to pick up the instrument.

McGraw has often opened up about how his very first guitar was a pawn-shop guitar, with the country hitmaker releasing ‘Pawn Shop Guitar’ - widely expected to be the name of his next album - about how impactful that moment was for his career.

As a young attendee called Finn made his way to the stage, McGraw quipped, “We might have the next Morgan Wallen on our hands”, before asking Finn to take the microphone, “Can you hold this for me? Feel free to sing or talk, or whatever you want to do”.

After an adorable rendition of McGraw's iconic 1998 single, ‘Where the Green Grass Grows’, Finn enquired about one of the Louisiana native's country-star buddies - Luke Combs.

Finn tentatively started the question about one of his favourite artists, “I know you are best friends with Luke Combs”, with McGraw then paying a kind-hearted homage to the ‘Beautiful Crazy singer-songwriter, “He's awesome. I love Luke Combs”.

Endearingly, rather than taking offence at the fact that Finn perhaps seemed a little more interested in talking about Combs than McGraw himself, McGraw used his love for Combs as a way to motivate the young fan to learn how to play his new guitar.

McGraw began, “So, if this was Luke talking to you and he asked you if you promise to learn the guitar, would you say yes?”, with Finn pausing, before declaring, “Absolutely”.

McGraw then handed him the white guitar, before jokingly thanking Combs for his help, “Here you go. And thank you to Luke Combs for getting this guy to play the guitar!”

It was a heartwarming exchange that has become a beloved part of McGraw's 2026 tour, and once again highlights the familial, good-natured ambience that permeates his shows.

McGraw and Combs are, of course, good pals, with the duo having joined forces in the past at CMA Fest, while Combs has often cited McGraw as one of his biggest idols.

Aptly, given what happened in Michigan, it was Combs’ mum telling him that McGraw didn't learn to play the guitar until his twenties that inspired him to pick it up himself.

Once McGraw had shared a clip of the moment via socials, Combs wasted no time in showing his approval, commenting, “HELL YEAH!!!!!” And who knows, McGraw might well be right, and little Finn could grow up to be country music's next Wallen, Combs or McGraw, and this touching gift could have sparked his interest in music.
