During his colossal home-state show at Kentucky's Kroger Field this past weekend, Tyler Childers serenaded the packed-out audience with a blend of older fan-favourites and newer material from his lauded 2023 record, Rustin’ in the Rain’.

One of the more light-hearted moments of the’ set arrived when the ‘In Your Love’ crooner performed the title-track to his 2022 triple-album, Can I Take My Hounds to Heaven?

As Tyler Childers delivered a heartfelt rendition of that soulful anthem, which finds him hoping that he'll still be able to enjoy the company of his beloved dogs in the afterlife, a fan captured the spirit of the track by triumphantly holding up their own pup.

It was an endearing, unexpected turn of events, with most fans leaving their four-legged friends at home for concerts. The fact that Childers regularly professes his love for his dogs and mules through his music made this feel all the more pertinent.

On ‘Can I Take My Hounds to Heaven?’, for instance, Tyler Childers croons adoringly, “If I can't take my hounds to Heaven, if I can't hunt on God's land / I'd rather load my dog box up and go to Hell with all my friends”, while Childers pays tribute to mules throughout Rustin’ in the Rain’. He has spoken in the past about how he feels a particular affinity with these animals, due to their value often being overlooked.

Elsewhere during his spellbinding show, which was attended by around tens of thousands of spectators, marking one of Tyler Childers’ biggest concerts to date, the country trailblazer treated fans to a special performance of his cult classic, ‘Jersey Giant’.

It's an unreleased offering that has been circulating online for yers, with Tyler Childers performing the track briefly years ago, before promptly scrapping it. A host of artists have released their own versions of ‘Jersey Giant’, such as Elle King and Sam Barber, but alas, Childers has never dropped his own take on the wildly popular anthem.

As a result, ticket-holders have learned not to expect ‘Jersey Giant’ to feature in Tyler Childers’ setlist. However, in Kroger Field, Childers surprised fans by performing the beloved track with a full band for the first time ever, with the adoring crowd greeting the unexpected inclusion with a chorus of euphoric cheers and screams.
