Long before she began to enjoy mainstream success with her break-out single, ‘Tennessee Orange’, it was clear Megan Moroney had star-power from the fast-emerging singer-songwriter's covers, which she'd regularly share across her social media.

One that stands out is undoubtedly the ‘I'm Not Pretty’ crooner's enchanting take on Morgan Wallen's chart-topping hit, ‘7 Summers’, released as part of his 2021 Dangerous double-album.

Although just singing to herself in the bathroom, Megan Moroney's warm, charismatic vocals shine throughout this throwback cover, with the Georgia prodigy showcasing the laid-back, conversational delivery she's now become known and loved for.

Of course, when viewed in light of the continued speculation and rumours surrounding Megan Moroney and Morgan Wallen's alleged relationship - which supposedly inspired ‘Tennessee Orange’, although this has never been confirmed - Megan's decision to cover ‘7 Summers’ back in 2022 is given a new sheen of intrigue.

There is a wealth of fan-driven folklore dedicated to the Megan Moroney and Morgan Wallen conjecture, with aficionados pointing to similarities between the latter's ‘Money On Me’ and the closing lyrics to Megan's 2023 ballad, ‘Mustang Or Me’ (“Who's it gonna be? I'd put all my money on me”), in addition to the fact that Megan was wearing Morgan's Tennessee Volunteers t-shirt in one of the Instagram posts promoting ‘Tennessee Orange’. Fans even suggested that Megan Moroney's decision to wear a Tennesse Vols jersey with the No. 16 on the back during her Knoxville show last year was a reference to Morgan's If I Know Me hit, ‘Had Me By Halftime’, which finds him serenading a love interest with a “16 home-team jersey on”. However, Megan later took to the comments to confirm she was simply wearing a jersey with NFL star Peyton Manning's number emblazoned on it.

Regardless of this supposed connection, though, Megan Moroney offers a spellbinding rendition of the track, lacing layers of emotion into every lyric and even introducing the captivating rasp we hear on more recent stripped-back tracks such as ’No Caller ID’ and ‘28th of June’. Making this track her own is no mean feat, given how inextricably linked ‘7 Summers’ is to Morgan Wallen's trademark drawl.

Megan Moroney is currently readying her keenly awaited sophomore album, Am I Okay?, for July 12th, 2024, with the hugely popular ‘Hair Salon’ hitmaker continuing to cement herself as one of the leading figures in the contemporary country scene.
