Despite facing technical difficulties midway through her performance at President Donald Trump's inauguration ceremony, Carrie Underwood has drawn plaudits for carrying on and delivering a powerful a cappella rendition of ’America the Beautiful’.

After briefly reverberating over the speakers, the backing cut out, with the ‘Before He Cheats’ hitmaker looking across the room as the sound engineers attempted to solve the issue.

When it became apparent a swift fix was not going to be possible, Carrie Underwood can be seen mouthing “I can just sing it”, before quipping to spectators, “If you know the words, help me out here”. Underwood has been praised by a number of those in attendance for her stunning rendition of the classic ode to the US, with the country megastar remaining unfazed by the glitch in the sound system.

Although it's not clear as of yet what caused the technical challenges, it's thought they may have resulted from the relatively last-minute decision to move the inauguration ceremony inside the rotunda of the US Capitol, due to freezing temperatures.

Carrie Underwood faced criticism from some sides of the country music world for her decision to perform ’America the Beautiful’ at Trump's inauguration, with Underwood responding in an official statement ahead of the ceremony, “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event. I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future”.

After concluding her performance of the beloved American song, Carrie Underwood turned and shook hands with former President Joe Biden, before making her way over to President Donald Trump to greet and congratulate him on his swearing-in.

Elsewhere during Donald Trump's inauguration events, such as the Commander in Chief Ball and Liberty Ball, a slew of artists such as Jason Aldean, Parker McCollum, Rascal Flatts, Billy Ray Cyrus, Gavin DeGraw and Lee Greenwood took the stage.
