During a new episode of the Playlisted Podcast at Nashville's Green Light Bar, Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis has shared the amusing story of how he met HARDY and ERNEST.
Levis, who was chatting to the host of the Playlisted Podcast, Austin Burke, regaled listeners with the tale of how he first bumped into HARDY at a cocktail bar in Lexington, Kentucky, when the NFL player was with college football team, Kentucky Wildcats.
The Massachusetts quarterback recalled, “We were at Bell's Cocktail House in Lexington, Kentucky - if anyone knows - and we're sitting up and [HARDY's] got a little section”.
Hilariously, Will Levis admitted, “I didn't know who he was. I misheard somebody say he was Morgan's manager, and I went up to him and I was like, ‘Hey, welcome to Lexington...’ and we started hitting it off. We started talking music, I was like insinuating that he was Morgan's manager, and he sits me down and is like, ‘Hey, man, I make music myself actually’. So that was like four years ago, and when I got to Nashville we reconnected and me and [HARDY's wife] Cayleigh are friends”.
Then, Will Levis went on to explain to Austin Burke how he ran into ERNEST - who he's now good buddies with - on a flight to Boston. ERNEST is famously an ardent Tennessee Titans fan, and Levis remarked how, endearingly, the ‘Flower Shops’ hitmaker was really keen to hear more details about their season so far, “I was on a flight to Boston...He just came at me asking all these Titans questions, like ‘How's the season going?’...Talking my ear off a little bit! And I got to know him a little more and found out he's an artist, and he's a close friend of mine”.
In response, Austin Burke championed HARDY and ERNEST as “two of the best songwriters, now artists, in Nashville”. HARDY and ERN are longstanding pals, with the duo having teamed up with Morgan Wallen for an array of country music chart-toppers.
Although HARDY, ERN and Morgan have all collaborated in the writing room on a number of occasions, they've never recorded a track where each artist is a vocalist. We're hoping that's about to change, potentially on Morgan Wallen's new record, I'm the Problem.
In 2022, HARDY shared with Holler that this collaboration “will happen”, with ERNEST revealing last year the three have a joint album, “just sittin’ around”. We're keeping our fingers crossed we get to hear more from this formidable trio in the near future.
