Sturgill Simpson is releasing a reissue of his iconic 2014 album, Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, on Vinyl and CD, with the project set to be made available on May 10.
The reissue will arrive as part of the celebration of the game-changing project's 10-year anniversary, with the album heralded by many as a landmark record for country music.
Released on May 13th, 2014, the Dave Cobb-produced Metamodern Sounds in Country Music explored an eclectic array of alt-country - and at times psychedelic-leaning - sonics.
Speaking at the time, Sturgill touched on the project's inspiration, “Myriad worldly offerings - religion, drugs and more - all claim to be the omnipotent universal truth, but in my experience, love is the only certainty. That’s what this record is about”.
The unveiling of the Metamodern Sounds in Country Music reissue comes shortly after a mysterious countdown was uploaded to Sturgill Simpson's website, with many fans speculating that a brand new body of work might be on the horizon.
Although not the album they were expecting, listeners will be hoping this reissue is only the tip of the iceberg in terms of 2024 releases from Sturgill, with the enigmatic artist's previous record, The Ballad Of Dood & Juanita, dropping back in 2021.
There have been a sparse smattering of collaborations and on-screen appearances in the proceeding years, but fans are keenly awaiting news of another full-length project.
In the meantime, they'll no doubt enjoy the chance to revisit Metamodern Sounds in Country Music through the May reissue, which will feature entirely revamped artwork. The vinyl has been pressed on 180g Black Vinyl with a classic tip-on jacket.
