Stephen Wilson Jr. has confirmed his major label debut album will be made available everywhere on September 15 2023. The hotly anticipated project, entitled ‘søn of dad’, will feature previously released fan-favourites, such as ‘billy’, ‘Year to Be Young 1994’ and the Hailey Whitters-assisted ‘American Gothic’.
søn of dad will also include the recently released Father's Day single, ‘Father's Søn’, which inspired the project's title. The celebrated track explores Stephen Wilson Jr.'s evolving identity in the aftermath of losing both his father and his namesake.
Excitingly for fans, søn of dad will be a sprawling double-album comprising 22 tracks, with the eagerly awaited project due to include all the songs from Stephen Wilson Jr.'s widely praised bon aqua EP.
In addition, the upcoming album from the Big Loud Records signee will feature ‘Grief is Only Love’, which Stephen Wilson Jr. performed during his recent show in London, UK while supporting Drake White.
It seems grief and loss will be recurring themes throughout søn of dad, with the Southern Indiana prodigy having amassed a burgeoning following through his evocative lyrical imagery and the eclectic, Americana-leaning textures he weaves into his music.
Speaking about the new record, Wilson Jr. explained, “Writing and making this album has been very therapeutic for me to learn who I am and what my existence looks like after my father. Because life has to go on. I'm living my own life, but it's like his death bookended what life he should have had onto mine and I'm carrying it around like a train car”.
In tandem with the album announcement, Stephen Wilson Jr. has made two further singles available immediately, the fierce, hell-raising ‘Mighty Beast’ and the introspective ‘All the Wars from Now On’.
