During his UK show in London on Monday (June 19), up-and-coming artist Stephen Wilson Jr. revealed that his debut album will be released on September 15th.
The country-Americana prodigy shared the exciting news amidst his simmering, high-octane set in support of Drake White. Both artists also took the stage for a couple of stellar performances at Black Deer Festival the previous weekend. It marks the latest in a string of UK shows for Stephen Wilson Jr., who also took the stage at the first ever Highways Festival at the Royal Albert Hall in May.
While delivering his opening stint for Drake White at London's Scala, Stephen Wilson Jr. also performed an unreleased song written in honour of his father, entitled ‘Grief Is Only Love’.
The heartfelt exploration of loss is expected to feature on his debut album under Big Loud Records, along with another ode to his namesake, ‘Father's Søn’, which he released on Friday (June 16).
Stephen Wilson Jr.'s Scala set included a number of highlights from his 2023 bon aqua EP, such as ‘the devil’, ‘billy‘, ’Holler from the Holler’ and the anthemic ‘Year to Be Young 1994’.
They were all underpinned by the wonderfully twitchy, electric energy that fizzles through Stephen Wilson's Jr.'s live performances, and that also courses through the studio versions.
All of the tracks that appear on bon aqua will presumably make their way onto Stephen Wilson Jr.'s eagerly awaited debut album on September 15th, along with ‘Grief Is Only Love’ and ‘Father's Søn’.
We're still awaiting confirmation of the project's title, but we're hoping the fast-emerging Southern Indiana native releases another single or two before the album drops.
