During the star-studded final tour-stop of Jelly Roll's Beautifully Broken run, the ‘Need a Favor’ hitmaker treated the packed-out Nashville crowd to a special duet with Snoop Dogg.
When introducing the West Coast legend, Jelly began by paying homage to his favourite Hip Hop tracks, before cutting that portion of the set short, confessing that he couldn't deliver this medley solo “when my friend, Snoop Dogg, is in the building!”
The ever-laidback Snoop then sauntered onto the Bridgestone Arena stage, before launching immediately into a snippet of his iconic collaboration with Dr Dre, ‘The Next Episode’.
Then, when the crowd thought Snoop Dogg was about to return backstage, Jelly Roll threw the packed-out audience a curveball. The Nashville singer-songwriter addressed Snoop, “I don't want to put you on the spot, but I know that you've got an album coming out real soon that was produced by the legendary Dr Dre”.
Snoop confirmed, before Jelly continued, “What I'm not sure that these people know, is that you gave me the honour of being a feature on that album...Snoop Dogg, I know this is a lot to ask of you, but can we debut our song here in my hometown right now?”
After a dramatic pause, Snoop Dogg bellowed out into the Music City night, “Nashville, can we debut this song right about now?” with the duo then kicking off the the brand new track.
Titled ‘Last Dance with Mary Jane’, the infectious song interpolates Tom Petty's 1993 classic, ‘Mary Jane's Last Dance’, with the new track even crediting Petty as a featured artist. It's an ode to Snoop Dogg's favourite plant, with Snoop rapping about how he first got introduced to cannabis, before Jelly chimes in with Petty's anthemic hook.
‘Last Dance with Mary Jane’, which has been produced by Snoop Dogg's go-to collaborator, Dr Dre, appears on the rap titan's new album, ‘Missionary’, which is released on December 13th.
