During an appearance on Audacy's Rob and Holly show, Kenny Chesney has delved into what fans can expect from his 2025 Sphere Las Vegas residency, as well as touching on his heartwarming friendship with fellow country artist, Megan Moroney.
Kenny Chesney brought Megean Moroney out on tour with him last summer as part of his hugely popular Sun Goes Down stadium run, with the duo making a tradition of performing the iconic ‘She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy‘ together during Chesney's headline set.
The Knoxville hitmaker has built a reputation for always making a point of providing a platform for up-and-coming female artists, having toured with Kelsea Ballerini, Kacey Musgraves and Taylor Swift while they were starting out in the country industry, at a time when many of his peers leant towards all-male support act rosters.
In his new interview, one of the hosts recalled a conversation with Megan Moroney, during which she outlined her objective to build a bigger-picture fan-base in the mould of Kenny Chesney's famous, sun-chasing ‘No Shoes Nation’ followers. Chesney responded, “I really hope that for her too. She's really good, and you know what's crazy, is that Megan and I didn't know each other this time last year, and we've both had conversations after touring with each other this summer, and I can't imagine us not knowing each other now. That's how crazy that is”.
The country legend expanded by paying tribute to Megan Moroney's performances while out on the road in 2024, “She was so great out there...and she's building her own beautiful, wonderful audience, and that's exciting to watch. The amount of people coming to her own shows now, and the way she's presenting herself, I don't know, I think she has the opportunity to do exactly what she's saying”.
Chesney concluded by gushing, “I think she will because she's a great songwriter, she cares about the music, and she's putting music first, and that's always a recipe for success - if you care about the music more than anything else, and she does”.
It's not the first time Kenny Chesney has offered an homage to his Sun Goes Down tour-mate, with Chesney underlining his appreciation for Moroney's craft during his recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon while promoting his Vegas residency.
Chesney emphasised, “Well, Megan was out on the road with us all summer...She is fantastic. I mean, she's really great. Speaking of being a great songwriter, great person, and she's really hungry, you know?” before recalling the hilarious moment Moroney pranked him during the final trio of shows in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
Kenny Chesney regaled the TV audience with the endearing story, “We always end our tour [at Foxborough's Gillette Stadium] - but a member of my road family, Bailey, took her to my bus and she put on my clothes in my bus and came out on-stage dressed as me. So it just goes to show you too, not only is Megan a great songwriter, she's got a really good personality - and isn't scared of anything”.
On New Year's Eve, Megan Moroney gifted fans a special live version of her current Country Radio single, ‘Am I Okay?’, performed alongside Kenny Chesney. Chesney surprised Moroney by inviting her to perform the track to his packed-out stadium crowd.
Kenny Chesney is currently gearing up to become the first ever country artist to headline Las Vegas’ Sphere, which features an immersive LED screen with a 171,000 pixels and 167,000 individual speakers creating a sound that can be locked in to each seat.
Elsewhere during his discussion with Rob and Holly, the ‘Take Her Home’ crooner teased that he's been making some changes to his setlist for his Live at Sphere Las Vegas residency, which launches in May, with Kenny Chesney adding in some “deeper cuts”.
We can't wait to see what Kenny Chesney has in-store for the Vegas shows - might we even be treated to another duet with Megan Moroney? We'll be keeping our fingers crossed.
