Sam Hunt has returned to social media to share some candid photos from a recent family trip, which appears to have been in the UK. In the Instagram carousel, Hunt debuts a bold new look, with his signature beard and hairstyle completely shaved off.
In the caption, Hunt shares some poetic lines from the famous US writer, Wendell Berry, “Wrinkled shirt tails when church let out. Before my Mema died—Lord, she was a character—if I could go back, I’d sound out her Queen’s English, sing some old Charles Wesley hymns, pull her leg with fake tattoos, and pick up all her limbs”.
Berry, a revered American novelist and small farmer, was known for his fierce defence of modern technology, with the Kentucky native famously not owning a phone or computer. Berry died on August 31st, 2026, with this feeling like an homage from Hunt.
Given Hunt's own aversion to social media in recent years, it seems he has been taking a leaf out of Berry's book, as he enjoys a quiet life with his wife, Hannah Lee Fowler, and their three young children, Lucy Louise, Lowry Lee and Weyman Allen.
Aside from being struck by Hunt's surprising change in appearance, with numerous fans taking to the comments to express their shock at his decision to shave off all his hair, followers have also been sharing their hope that new music might be on the way.
Back in early June, Hunt shared what seemed like an unreleased song playing over a Father's Day home-video via Instagram, with some potential lyrics in the caption, “Blackberries growing on the property line, staining little hands that look like mine”.
It was the latest in a string of posts showcasing Hunt settling into his role as a husband and father, with some fans wondering whether the ‘Body Like a Back Road’ hitmaker is working on an album about fatherhood, in the mould of Luke Combs’ Fathers & Sons.
There's certainly been an Old English aesthetic running through all of Hunt's posts over the past couple of years, which could potentially play into the theme of his next project. With Hunt's last full-length studio album, SOUTHSIDE, arriving back in 2020, it feels like we're well overdue a new record from the ‘Outskirts’ crooner, especially given how Hunt helped to shape the modern country music sound.
