Kelsea Ballerini is no stranger to receiving surprises from her loyal fanbase, with the ‘HEARTFIRST’ singer-songwriter already being treated to an array of thoughtful home-made gifts over the course of her expansive 2025 PATTERNS Tour so far. For instance, in Oregon, she was presented with a stained-glass recreation of her beloved dog, Dibs, who was diagnosed with inoperable heart cancer last year.

However, we think it's safe to say Ballerini was not expecting to be handed a fan's divorce decree during her packed-out tour-stop in Salt Lake City's Delta Center this weekend.

Partway through her spellbinding set, Kelsea Ballerini took a moment to read some of the signs fans had brought to the show, with the ‘IF YOU GO DOWN (I'M GOIN’ DOWN TOO)’ hitmaker quickly spotting a man holding up a piece of paper, reading, “Will you help me finish rolling up the welcome mat and sign my divorce decree?”

The man's son was holding up the sign, with Kelsea Ballerini initially quipping that he seemed too young to be divorced, before the father clarified that the sign was referring to him.

After a moment of confusion, The Voice USA judge, hesitantly responded, “I'd be...honoured?” with the fan shouting, “You got me through my divorce!” When Kelsea Ballerini realised that it was the man's divorce decree, she looked around the arena, hilariously asking if it was even legal for her to sign his official divorce decree.

To be safe, the ‘Baggage’ crooner decided not to sign the actual decree, and instead autograph the back, with Kelsea Ballerini joking, “Respectfully, I'm really excited to stop being a poster child for divorce”, adding, “But I'm really happy for you!”

Kelsea Ballerini's widely lauded 2023 EP, Rolling Up The Welcome Mat, explored the country chart-topper's divorce from fellow artist, Morgan Evans, with Ballerini delving into the breakdown in their relationship with striking vulnerability and intricacy.

As a result, the project has been hailed by many as an outlet for those going through a break-up or divorce. With Kelsea Ballerini now having moved on from that chapter in her life and in a happy relationship with Outer Banks star, Chase Stokes, Ballerini has gently requested that fans stop expressing any animosity towards Evans.

At a recent show in Florida, Kelsea Ballerini halted her performance of ‘Penthouse’, during which she sings, “And it stings rolling up the welcome mat / knowing you got half”.

This prompted some attendees to shout, “F*** you, Morgan!” Ballerini cut the track, cautioning, “Guys, you’ve got to stop saying that. Seriously. We’re three years past it. Everything’s fine now. I sing this song for you now. It’s not about me anymore, please”.

Kelsea Ballerini went on, “Alright, for everyone who’s moving forward with their life, will you sing this with me?” with many fans toasting Ballerini's move to shut down the insults.

Hot on the heels of the arrival of PATTERNS (DELUXE) in March, Kelsea Ballerini continues her hugely popular tour of the same name, with dates lined up in Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina, New York, Pennsylvania and Ontario.
