Noah Kahan has released the official music video for his viral song, ‘Orbiter’. The heartfelt, bittersweet song appears on Kahan’s fourth album, The Great Divide, which debuted at No. 1 in both the UK and US. The video is exsluviely available via Spotify for the first 48 hours.
Kahan has explained that ‘Orbiter’ isn’t dedicated to just one person. It is about his wife, his mother and his fans essentially the people who have kept him grounded while his life has expanded.
His mum, Lauri, had seen the considerably less glamorous part.
Long before the GRAMMY nominations and billion-stream songs, she drove Noah around New England to his early performances. Years earlier, she had asked whether she could be his date if he ever made it to the GRAMMYs. In 2024, he kept his word. Lauri later admitted that she cried three times in the car on the way there.
That history gives ‘Orbiter’ its emotional weight, with Kahan reflecting on the experience of walking the Red Carpet with his mom. The Great Divide is the album Kahan made after achieving nearly everything he had spent years trying to attain, only to discover that success often comes at a higher cost, than trying to achieve it in the first place.
That tension appears on other tracks on the record too. ‘Porch Light’ was written from the imagined perspective of a mother missing the son whose career keeps taking him further and further from home.
‘Orbiter’ looks at that distance from the other side. Its title suggests somebody going far away, but the song is really about centring the people who continue to remind Kahan of his true self.
Releasing its official video now gives one of the album’s most personal songs its own moment.
