Folk sensation Noah Kahan walked away with the Top Rock Album honor at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards last night (December 12) for his blockbuster record, Stick Season.
The album, which has spawned a trio of extended versions, including the We'll All Be Here Forever edition and the final 2024 Forever edition, has become the career-defining project for the acclaimed singer-songwriter. Originally released in October 2022, Kahan began writing what would become Stick Season during the COVID-19 pandemic and has since referred to it as a "love letter to New England," which is where he was born and raised.
Now, more than two years later, the 2x Platinum-certified record has become the soundtrack to the lives of so many and has proven to be a steadfast era in Kahan's impressive career thus far while topping charts all around the globe, including Canada, the Netherlands, Ireland and the UK.
"Thank you so much to the Billboard Music Awards for giving me the honor of Top Rock Album. I am so so moved and honored," Kahan shared in a pre-recorded video during the ceremony. "Thank you so much for this amazing honor. I made this album about Vermont, and I want to shout out people there, my family there. Want to shout out my management team, my label, Mercury, my management foundations, Sony Publishing, my band, my dogs. I’m just so grateful to have a chance to win awards in my career, something that I’m not used to. So thank you, guys."
The Vermont native came into the ceremony with four Billboard nominations, including for Top Rock Artist, Top Rock Song ('Stick Season') and Top Billboard 200 Album (Stick Season).
Recognizing the top artists, albums, singles and songs in a variety of music genres from across 2024, the Billboard Music Awards are based on sales, streaming, airplay and touring data from the last 12-month period rather than being voted on by fans or a panel.
