Who would have thought country sensation Nate Smith and pop punk mainstay Avril Lavigne would be a match made in heaven?
Well, at the 59th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards on Thursday night (May 16), the unlikely pair proved just how heavenly they are. The two delivered a smoldering rendition of Smith’s 'Bulletproof' during the prestigious showcase.
Immediately, their newly revamped version of the country hitmaker's Through The Smoke favorite was a thrilling display. Smith kicked it off, tackling the first lines of the stark tune ahead of its explosive crescendo when he called Lavigne out onto the stage.
The two of them gave an energetic show of the liquored up ditty, both bounding across the stage in all black, and seeming to have the best time.
Just ahead of the ceremony, Smith was awarded the event's New Male Artist of the Year, beating ERNEST, Kameron Marlowe, Dylan Scott and Conner Smith for the title. The honor marks the perfect bow on what has been an impressive breakout year for the artist.
Elsewhere in the night, even more star-studded pairings took the awards show stage, with Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani, as well as Kelsea Ballerini with Noah Kahan delivering powerhouse duets.
