A dazzling array of A-list celebrities, chart-topping artists and revered sports stars have been spotted attending 2026 FIFA World Cup matches this summer - but nobody can compete with the dedication of Mumford & Sons’ frontman, Marcus Mumford.

During a recent interview with Waitrose & Partners’ popular Dish Podcast, when the hosts Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett ask Marcus what would happen if there had been a Mumford & Sons show on the same night as one of England's World Cup fixtures, Marcus hilariously replies that this was “statistically impossible”.

The ‘Rubber Band Man’ hitmaker goes on, “Because we didn't even announce our tour until after they'd said when the Group games were, because we didn't want to take the risk”.

Marcus emphasises how important it was to him and his band-mates, Ben Lovett and Ted Dwane, to ensure they'd be able to cheer Thomas Tuchel's England on every step of the way, “We announced our tour late because...they hadn't announced the World Cup fixtures. So we didn't know what day England might be playing, and so once they'd announced that, then we announced our tour with no clashes”.

Indeed, the World Cup fixture-list was confirmed in December 2025, and the band unveiled their 2026 run a couple of months later in February - relatively late for a World Tour.

It's an impressive level of commitment as an England fan, and we imagine this means Marcus braved the 1am kick-off time when Kane and his team took on Mexico on July 6th.

Marcus is a major football aficionado, with the ‘Badlands’ crooner often spotted donning an England shirt. Mumford & Sons even released a special Lotto football shirt in celebration of their tour, which sold out shortly after it was made available.

Thankfully, the World Cup didn't end up getting in the way of Mumford & Sons’ hugely popular Prizefighter Tour, which has taken the folk trailblazers across North America, Europe, the UK and more, including a brilliant headline set at London's BST Hyde Park.
