The popular Morgan Wallen sign at Eric Church's Chief's Bar on Broadway has been removed.
The placard had become a tourist magnet since it was installed in April, after Morgan allegedly threw a chair from the rooftop of the Nashville bar, which had just opened at the time.
The metal sign poked fun at the incident, reading, “Don't even think about it. You are not Morgan Wallen”. Now, however, it appears that notorious placard has been replaced by scrawled writing, which reads, “Right here. Stop asking bartender! MW”.
Given the tone of this message, it feels like the sign may have been taken away because it was drawing too many people to Chief's that solely wanted to see the Morgan Wallen sign, rather than visiting to enjoy the live music or to buy food and drinks.
With Morgan Wallen's trial date looming on December 12th, it's possible the infamous sign could have been perceived as trivialising the incident. Some commentators have speculated that the placard was removed so as not to undermine his remorse. It's worth stressing, however, that it feels unlikely Morgan and his team had anything to do with the decision to put the sign up, and indeed to remove it.
Morgan Wallen is facing three charges of reckless endangerment and one charge of disorderly conduct, with Morgan accused of throwing a chair from the Chief's rooftop, which is alleged to have landed near two Metropolitan Nashville Police officers.
A couple of weeks later, the ‘Love Somebody’ singer-songwriter shared an official statement via X, “I didn't feel right publicly checking in until I made amends with some folks. I’ve touched base with Nashville law enforcement, my family, and the good people at Chief’s. I'm not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility”.
Morgan Wallen is currently taking a break from touring and is believed to be honing his forthcoming studio album, following the conclusion of his record-breaking One Night At A time run, which has been confirmed as the highest selling country tour of all time. Morgan appeared as a surprise guest during ERNEST's set at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena earlier in the week, marking the Sneedville megastar's first performance since he was crowned 2024 CMA Entertainer of the Year.
