In Episode 8 of his much-loved Sunday Seven sermon series on SiriusXM's Morgan Wallen Radio, Morgan's father, Tommy, explores some of the teachings in Chapter 2 of Genesis.

In this latest instalment of Tommy's Biblically-inspired series, he examines the question, ‘Why Did God Create?’, with the Tennessee pastor diving into some of the ideas within Genesis about how God wanted humans to be able to thrive and enjoy their lives.

He begins by reflecting, “God made us to be able to enjoy and live off of everything else he created. God made us in his image, and that means he wants us to be like him”.

He goes on to explain how God made us all with a “void” inside us that can only be filled by God. Tommy then touches on how many try to fill that void with other things instead, sharing, “If good cannot occupy that space, something else inevitably will”.

He brings his own experience into the sermon, referencing his struggles with alcoholism and drug addiction - which he has been movingly open about throughout the Sunday Seven series so far - musing how some try to fill this void with harmful things, “Others try to numb it or ignore it through drug and alcohol use and abuse”. Ultimately, though, “Only God can fulfil that God-shaped hole within us”.

Elsewhere during the sermon, Tommy explains, “God created everything for a purpose. He created us to have an intimate relationship with himself. He gave us a void on the inside that desires to be filled with himself, and he gave us creation to point us in the right direction to himself. I’m praying that God uses these brief seven minutes each week to help you that haven’t gotten there yet to find your way to him”.
