During his blockbuster return to the stage following his six-week hiatus, Morgan Wallen brought out his good friend, Lil Durk for a live debut of ‘Stand By Me’ in Durk's home city of Chicago.
The duo dropped their electrifying country-rap collaboration in May, marking the second time Wallen and Durk have linked up, following their chart-topping 2021 single, ‘Broadway Girls’.
The Sneedville country star and the Chicago rapper have performed ‘Broadway Girls’ live together in the past, and every time the two combine, it seems to take the crowd's energy levels up another notch.
In their latest joint performance in Chicago, Wallen and Durk prowled across the Wrigley Field stage as the uptempo, trap-inspired ‘Stand By Me’ instrumental kicked in over the speakers, before Wallen launched into his anthemic hook.
Although they hail from different genres, Lil Durk and Morgan Wallen have struck up an unlikely but endearing friendship over the past two years, with Durk even teasing an unreleased song and a potential joint country album in recent weeks.
Given the sparks that flew when the two hit the stage last night (June 22), a collaborative album would surely serve as a welcome victory-lap for these two genre-blending heavyweights.
Elsewhere in Morgan Wallen's performance - his first since he was forced to take six weeks of voice rest, after re-injuring his vocal chords - one of the ‘Last Night’ hitmaker's best buddies, Ernest, also joined him for a stellar rendition of their fan-favourite collaboration, ‘Flower Shops’.
This all helped to give Morgan Wallen's touring return in Chicago a refreshingly warm, familial feeling, with every special guest enhancing the sense of camaraderie between all the artists that charged gladly onto the Wrigley Field stage.
