Following the popularity of their recent ‘Stand By Me’ collaboration, Lil Durk has taken to social media to tease an entire collaborative album with country megastar, Morgan Wallen.
The Chicago rapper posted the message to Instagram, “Me and Morgan should do [an] album together - 1st to do it”, along with the caption, “Everything we do we win might as well do a country album”.
Not too long after sharing the teaser, Lil Durk followed this up with apparent confirmation that the project will be happening, writing in his Instagram Story, “The fans ready lets start the process - making history The Voice x the chart king”. Lil Durk is known to fans as ‘The Voice’, while Morgan Wallen has dominated the Billboard charts over the past few months, hence Durk referring to him as ‘the chart king’.
The news follows the recent revelation that, as well as recording ‘Stand By Me’ for Lil Durk's latest album, Almost Healed, Durk also linked up with Morgan for another collaboration which is yet to see the light of day. Should a country album be on the cards, it would seem this unreleased song would be the first entry onto the tracklist.
‘Stand By Me’, which features Lil Durk's signature half-crooned, half-rapped verses pivoting around Morgan Wallen's anthemic, uplifting hook, marked the second time the two have collaborated. In 2021, the dynamic duo joined forces for the snarling, ferocious ‘Broadway Girls’, which hit No. 1 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
This week, ‘Stand By Me’ debuted at No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the highest ranking new song from Almost Healed, not counting Lil Durk's previously released collaboration with J. Cole, ‘All My Life’, which currently sits at No. 4 on the chart.
Morgan Wallen has retained the coveted top spot on the Hot 100 for the ninth week with his infectious, beat-driven song, ‘Last Night’, taken from his acclaimed March project, One Thing At A Time.
The unprecedented nature of a collaborative album that brings together two artists from rap and country has inevitably sparked conflicting reactions from fans.
However, given the electricity that crackles throughout both ‘Stand By Me‘ and ‘Broadway Girls’, it seems the unique - and somewhat endearing - chemistry that exists between Lil Durk and Morgan Wallen is something that should be tapped into whenever the opportunity arises.
