During her insightful new appearance on Jake Shane's Therapuss podcast, Megan Moroney has delved into her friendship with both Kenny Chesney and Tate McRae.

Moroney and Chesney spent much of the summer together last year as part of the latter's Sun Goes Down tour, with the duo striking up a heartwarming friendship. They honoured this with the charming ‘You Had To Be There’, which dropped back in May and was touchingly penned by Moroney as a New Year's Eve gift for Chesney.

While chatting to Jake Shane, Moroney has underlined how influential Chesney's words of wisdom has been on her blossoming career, “So I got to open for him last year, on a stadium tour. And he's become such a close friend and mentor. And there was a time where I was really crashing out over this article that got posted. And a lot of it wasn't true, Kenny came to my house because he was like, ‘You need to chill out. You're building something so special, the connection you have with your fans, and you are letting these people eat your lunch’”.

She went on, “So, he just came over and hyped me up. My parents were in town. And so, my parents thanked him a million times for coming and doing that because he just talked some sense into me when I was crashing out. But it's so nice to have a friend like Kenny. He's been through it all, he knows what it's like to have people talk bad about him and even anything, really, because he's been doing it for so long. So, he always has the best advice. And he talked some sense into me. None of that matters. What matters is my songwriting, my fans, and my path”.

Chesney surprised Moroney ahead of her first ever headlining stadium show in South Carolina last month, with the duo performing a live-wire rendition of ‘You Had To Be There’.

The track is expected to feature on Moroney's eagerly anticipated new album, with the ‘Tennessee Orange’ singer-songwriter continuing to tease the forthcoming project.

Yesterday (October 9th), to celebrate her birthday, Moroney dropped an unexpected live album, featuring fan-favourites such as ‘Man on the Moon’, ‘I'm Not Pretty’ and more.

Endearingly, as a special birthday present, Chesney got Moroney a vintage 1984 hummingbird guitar, signed by the unofficial Queen of Country, Dolly Parton. Moroney took to Instagram to gush, “@kennychesney with the most insane bday gift - a vintage 1984 hummingbird signed by dolly - screaming, crying, throwing up”.

Elsewhere during her conversation with Jake Shane, the ‘6 Months Later’ hitmaker reflected on another close friendship with a fellow artist - Canadian pop-star, Tate McRae.

Moroney has warmly toasted McRae, “I just love her so much. She's so much fun and the sweetest, and she's so talented. I could go on and on. So last year...We've been following each other on Instagram for a while. I've obviously been a fan of hers for a while. I didn't know if she knew who I was there for a second, but we were Instagram friends, and then she was like, ‘I'm playing in Nashville. Do you want to do ‘Tennessee Orange’...or, I can't remember how it went, but we did Tennessee Orange at that amphitheater. And then this year again, she was playing Bridgestone. And I happened to be home that day, which is rare because it was a Thursday. And usually, I have shows, Thursday to Saturday, but I didn't. So, I was like, ‘this is perfect.’ And we did the emo version of ‘Six Months Later’. She kills any song she does....She's my friend and I think she's a superhuman because not only is she so talented, but she’s also so normal and kind”.

Their chemistry always radiates throughout their performances when they link up on-stage. It's safe to say we're keeping our fingers crossed that, alongside ‘You Had To Be There’ with country legend Kenny Chesney, Moroney's third album might also feature a blockbuster collaboration with Tate McRae. And judging by their recent New York pop-up show, could we also be getting a duet with Ed Sheeran...?
