It's easy to forget just how many undeniable hits Kenny Chesney has accumulated over his career - but a few of his closest artist-friends did their best to highlight a handful of them during last night's Country Music Hall of Fame induction.

Megan Moroney, who has become one of Chesney's best buddies in the past year or so, surprised her ‘You Had To Be There’ collaborator with a stunning cover of ‘Knowing You’. Moroney has performed this track in the past, citing it as one of her favourites.

The ‘Tennessee Orange’ singer-songwriter also took to TikTok to share a pared-down, backstage rendition of the nostalgic ode, gushing, “so happy I got to surprise @Kenny Chesney tonight at @Country Music HOF & Museum <3 LOVE YOU”.

Via Instagram, Moroney again underlined how special it was being a part of Chesney's induction, “@kennychesney was inducted into the country music hall of fame tonight & i got to surprise him...what an honor...@countrymusichof right where he belongs”.

Kelsea Ballerini, another of Chesney's collaborators and former tour-mates, also took to the Country Music Hall of Fame stage to perform the aching ‘Somewhere With You’.

Featuring on Chesney's seminal 2010 album, Hemingway's Whiskey, ’Somewhere With You’ has held its own in the country titan's stadium-sized setlist over the years.

Alongside Moroney and Ballerini, ‘Hell of a View’ hitmaker Eric Church sauntered onto the stage for a live-wire medley of Chesney hits. We were treated to sing-along anthems such as ‘I Go Back’, ‘Anything But Mine’, ‘Never Wanted Nothing More’ and ‘The Boys of Fall’, as well as the haunting deep cut, ‘El Cerrito Place’.

It was the perfect combination of songs to pay homage to Chesney's ability to deliver an iconic smash, as well as showcasing Church's own deep-seated respect for the Knoxville native's catalogue through the inclusion of the lesser-known ‘El Cerrito Place’.

As for the medallion presentation itself, Chesney was honoured by one of Nashville's leading record executives and a man that played a pivotal role in his own emergence in country music, Joe Galante. The ‘Summertime’ crooner outlined his gratitude to all the performers, as well as emphasising his pride at being welcomed into the Country Music Hall of Fame alongside June Carter Cash and Tony Brown.

For Brown's induction, George Strait, Trisha Yearwood, Steve Earle and Lyle Lovett all performed, while Carter Cash was posthumously recognised by Kacey Musgraves, Daniel Tashian, Keb’ Mo’, Ruby Amanfu and Lukas Nelson. Vince Gill presented Brown with his medallion, and Emmylou Harris did the honours for Carter Cash.
