Medium Build, the brainchild of singer-songwriter Nick Carpenter, has got the pedal to the floorboard as he’s ‘Cutting Thru The Country’.
The ‘Never Learned to Dance’ artist just dropped the atmospheric fever dream of a single, alongside an equally delirious visual, which features the singer being puppeted through a number of frantic scenes.
“In August, while I was driving from Alaska to Nashville, I started a little poem,” Medium Build shares of the song. “I wanted it to feel like an Earl Sweatshirt song. Just bars, no chorus, no melody. We found an old keyboard and plugged it in. Found some wild tones, and I did like 6 takes of the vocal. Probably the easiest tune we made on the album.”
The new single follows his recently released ‘Crying Over U’ and acts as the lead offering from his forthcoming album. Titled Country, the record is set to arrive on April 5.
His first full-length studio release since 2019’s Wild and the follow-up to his 2023 Health EP, Country finds Medium Build coming to terms with the idea of home and laying bare both the physical and mental journey he’s been on up to this point.
The 12-song collection is set to traverse his highs and lows, the good and the bad along the way.
“I want this album to connect to wherever you are, to whatever you’re doing,” his voice can be heard telling fans in a recent post on Instagram. “I want this album to be something that you live with – pain, anger, hope, sorrow, or just light-hearted coffee.”
Shortly after Country's release, the rising entertainer will be hitting the road alongside special guests Rosie Rush and Clover Country.
Kicking off on May 15, he'll be criss-crossing the U.S. and Canada through the beginning of July, with stops lined up in Kansas City, Phoenix, Seattle, Chicago, Nashville, Detroit and many more.
Medium Build's forthcoming project, Country, will be available everywhere on April 5.
