Morgan Wallen has shared another clip of his long-awaited unreleased track, ‘Come Back As A Redneck’. The Sneedville native originally teased the rowdy, down-home anthem in March 2024, with the new version exploring a decidedly different sound.
The latest snippet of ‘Come Back As A Redneck’ features a more country-leaning, electric-guitar-fuelled feel, whereas the original clip was pervaded by a hazy, synth-driven ambience.
We don't know who the songwriting team behind the infectious new track is, but with the country-rock fusion that now permeates ’Come Back As A Redneck’ and the proudly rural themes of the lyrics, we wouldn't be surprise if HARDY had a hand in this one.
When Morgan Wallen performed ‘Just in Case’ on SNL at the weekend, the flickering TV behind him revealed a handful of tracks from his keenly awaited new album, I'm the Problem, which drops on May 16th. To viewers’ delight, ‘Come Back As A Redneck’ appeared, along with - tantalisingly - a blanked-out guest vocalist.
There was a concern that ‘Come Back As A Redneck’ had been scrapped, due to the initial snippet not being met with the fervent response that greeted ‘I'm the Problem’, ‘Since You Got Gone’ and ‘Smile’, with Morgan Wallen deleting that clip from his socials.
Thankfully, though, it will be appearing on I'm the Problem, with the ‘Last Night’ chart-topper's decision to remove the first teaser seemingly due to the revised sound of the track.
We'll have to wait and see who the guest vocalist on ‘Come Back As A Redneck’ might be, but the fact that Morgan Wallen has shared a new clip of the highly anticipated offering could suggest that we'll get to hear the full version ahead of the album.
Could Morgan Wallen be gearing up to drop ‘Come Back As A Redneck’ as early as this Friday, April 4th, perhaps in honour of it being 4/4 and this being his fourth studio album?
Alternatively, some have interpreted this new clip, which features the caption ‘Maybe then you'll understand’, as a dig at SNL. Morgan Wallen stirred up a furore when he left the stage during the end credits, with various rumours surfacing of backstage tension between the ‘Love Somebody’ singer-songwriter and the cast.
It certainly seemed as though Wallen was keen to leave New York, with the country titan taking to Instagram shortly after the broadcast to share a photo of his private jet, alongside the caption, “Get me back to God's country”, before heading home to Tennessee.
Bearing in mind how ‘Come Back As A Redneck’ follows a country-living protagonist who chastises a judgemental city-man, the timing certainly feels a little pointed.
Either way, the rollout for I'm the Problem is picking up pace, and we'll be keeping our fingers crossed that ’Come Back As A Redneck’ drops in the coming weeks - and that there's a blockbuster HARDY or possibly even Post Malone verse on the track.
