When Zach Bryan shared a brand new audio-file to Instagram with the caption ‘Motorbreath’, we assumed it was another clip of his unreleased song of the same name. You can imagine our surprise, therefore, when upon pressing play, instead of Bryan's soulful vocals, Matthew McConaughey's signature baritone leapt out from our phones.
Rather than being a new song snippet, Zach Bryan has shared what appears to be an introduction - delivered by McConaughey - to a forthcoming movie, which follows the ‘Something in the Orange’ hitmaker on a two-week motorcycle ride across the US with a group of friends, as he completes his final major label album.
McConaughey drawls, “This is not a film about a band, this is a film about a boy from Oklahoma. A boy who joined the Navy, with a love of writing. That writing connected with people, a lot of people. This film is about a group of best friends taking a two-week motorcycle ride across America, while recording one final major label album”.
Then, after a dramatic pause, Matthew McConaughey offers one extra tidbit of information about the unexpected new project, “Oh, and the title of the film you ask? Motorbreath”.
There's no release date as of yet, but what's particularly exciting is that it sounds like the film has already been finished - and if it follows Zach Bryan and his buddies as they create his last record with Warner, this suggests he's also completed his new album.
It's not the first time the Oklahoma singer-songwriter has recruited Matthew McConaughey to inject a little Texas star-power into his creations, with McConaughey appearing in the cinematic music video for ‘Nine Ball‘ alongside Tye Sheridan last year.
With Zach Bryan eschewing a full-scale tour this year and preparing to study for a Masters degree in Paris, France, it appears he's been making the most of his time away from the road by...well, returning to the road, but in a different sense, as he filmed Motorbreath. We'll be keenly awaiting more details surrounding this mystery project and its companion album, with Bryan seemingly confirming his previous suggestions that his The Great American Bar Scene follow-up album will be the last body of work he releases as part of his Warner Records deal.
