During an appearance at The Ryman Auditorium, Marty Stuart surprised Jake Worthington with an invitation he's been waiting for ever since he started his country music journey.
Marty Stuart confirmed that Worthington would be making his coveted Grand Ole Opry debut on July 21. The news arrived partway through Marty Stuart's Late Night Jam on Wednesday, June 7, with Jake Worthington joining the country veteran on-stage for a powerful rendition of Worthington's neo-traditional ballad, ‘State You Left Me In’.
The duo also performed an unreleased track that they'd written together, entitled ‘I'm The One’, with fans already clamouring for the song to receive an official release as soon as possible.
As Jake Worthington joined Marty Stuart on the hallowed stage of The Ryman Auditorium, the latter then made the momentous Opry announcement, underlining, “This boy has country music in his heart. If I was betting on anybody in country music, I'd put all my chips on this guy. I love him and I believe in him, he's the real deal”.
Worthington was unsurprisingly deeply moved, with the Texas prodigy explaining that Marty Stuart's role in breaking the news made it feel all the more special, “Man, I ain't got no words. At the drop of a hat we will be there. It means the world that Marty Stuart shared this with me, his music has been a heavy influence on mine. He's the king of cool in country music. I've always believed in the power of a song, but I've never seen it playing out like this for me. It's everything I've ever dreamed of”.
Although fans will have to wait over a month before they get to witness Jake Worthington step into the legendary circle at the Grand Ole Opry, they'll have plenty of opportunities to see their man perform across Nashville throughout CMA Fest 2023.
The classic crooner will be making an appearance at the Chevy Vibes Stage on Friday, June 9, with sets also lined up at the ‘Whiskey Jam at Whiskey Row’ showcase on Saturday, June 10.
