During a new interview with Katie from the Girls in Low Places Podcast and Holler, Carly Pearce has delved into her friendship with Kelsea Ballerini, her new deluxe album and more.
When listening to deeply vulnerable and moving tracks from Carly Pearce's latest album, hummingbird, such as ‘my place’ and ‘we don't fight anymore’, it can often feel as though you're eavesdropping on an intimate, early-hours conversation with a friend.
The Kentucky hitmaker exuded this endearing sense of warmth and familiarity throughout her chat, epitomised by the hilarious moment when Carly Pearce was asked, ‘What is the worst thing country music has made you do?’, with Pearce responding “Marry a country artist...!”, a nod to her whirlwind marriage to Michael Ray.
After tying the knot in 2019, Carly Pearce and fellow country singer-songwriter Michael Ray got divorced the following year, with that tumultuous period serving as the muse for much of Pearce's widely lauded 2021 record, 29: Written in Stone.
After this amusing quip, Carly Pearce reflected on how she also has country music to thank for her growth since the breakdown in that relationship, “Country music also made me successful, because I got out...I mean, truly though, to get married and divorced in a year, like that is legit country...I don't know if people know this...”
Pearce went on, “...A secret that my hair would tell you is I filed for divorce the same week ‘I Hope You're Happy Now’ hit No. 1. If that isn't some Loretta Lynn shit, I don't know what is”.
The ‘truck on fire’ crooner then paid tribute to a more rose-tinted turn of fate, with Carly Pearce gushing over her friend, Lainey Wilson, getting engaged in the same week that the song she penned about her partner, ‘4X4XU’, hit the top of the charts.
Pearce heartwarmingly explained, “My favorite is Lainey just had a US number one with ‘4X4XU’ the week she got engaged. I had a number one on the week I filed for divorce”.
Shortly after speaking with Holler and the Girls in Low Places Podcast, Carly Pearce serenaded a packed-out crowd at London's O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire with an array of stand-outs and fan-favourites from across her formidable discography.
Excitingly, Pearce included an infectious unreleased track, ‘If Looks Could Kill’, in her London, UK setlist, with fans clamouring for the song to be made available in the near future.
