On the latest episode of The BobbyCast, Zach John King revealed that Luke Bryan sent him home from American Idol…and then took him on tour this year.

“I made it to Hollywood Week,” King told host Bobby Bones, “and Luke Bryan sent me home, ironically, and told me to keep gigging.”

King was on the coveted talent show during its 2020 Covid year, but no footage of his auditions ever aired.

“I’m on tour with Luke Bryan this year and I told him about it,” King said, referencing Bryan sending him home. We would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for that revelation!

On his Word On The Street Tour, Bryan redeemed himself by being the one to invite King to make his Opry debut, which we’re pretty sure is something 2020 King could never have dreamed would happen.

During their chat, the ‘Get To Drinkin’’ singer was also able to share a special memory with Bobby Bones.

“The last time we talked we were by the pool and you actually encouraged me,” King told him, “I had an audition and I didn’t feel great about it...I did a Kings of Leon song and you were like, ‘hey that was really good’.”

“That was you?!” Bobby Bones exclaimed, immediately remembering King’s performance.

Luke Bryan’s advice was for King to keep gigging, and that’s exactly what he did. And look at him now. Touring with Luke Bryan and stepping into the Opry circle. You might say it’s the best advice he could have been given.
