From Yellowstone to her own documentary to a Hollywood film, and now a Netflix sitcom, Lainey Wilson is adding another on-screen credit to an increasingly varied CV.

Wilson will guest star in Season 2 of Leanne, the Netflix comedy starring Tennessee comedian Leanne Morgan. Wilson will play Jessie Leanne’s cousin in Episode 9 of the new 10 episode season.

If you’ve not watched Season 1 don’t worry, we aren’t about to spoil it. Leanne arrived on Netflix in July 2025 and is loosely inspired by Morgan’s own stand up.

The 16-episode sitcom follows Leanne Murphy after her husband Bill, played by Ryan Stiles, leaves her for another woman after 33 years of marriage, forcing her to navigate divorce, dating and starting again with a little help - whether she wants it or not - from her wonderfully unfiltered family.

Season 2 finds Leanne approaching 60, dealing with “divorce remorse”, dipping another toe into the dating pool and suddenly having her aging parents move into her house. The trailer also includes blind dates and family chaos.

Wilson actually feels like a pretty natural fit for the Leanne world too. She and Morgan have crossed paths plenty of times already, going head to head with their families on Celebrity Family Feud in 2025 before sharing the CMA Awards stage later that year as Leanne joined Wilson for a short comedy segment. They were also both part of Jelly Roll’s Grand Ole Opry induction night in March this year.

There’s even a Nashville connection running through the show itself. Longtime Nashville singer-songwriter Lauren Lucas co-wrote and performs the Leanne theme alongside legendary blues and Americana musician Keb’ Mo’, whose team also worked on the music heard throughout the series.

For Wilson, though, acting was never actually the original dream. At just 16, she wrote in her journal “My dream is to become a country singer/songwriter.”

Years before Nashville knew her name, she was already getting some rather unconventional performance experience, spending her teenage years earning money impersonating Hannah Montana at birthday parties, fairs and festivals sometimes playing three or four events in a single weekend. Music remained the goal, and importantly, her acting career came after her country breakthrough. ‘Things a Man Oughta Know’ had already gone No. 1 and Wilson had received a huge six CMA nominations in 2022 before she ever appeared on Yellowstone.

Her connection to Taylor Sheridan's hit neo-Western sserieshow actually started with her songs. ‘Workin’ Overtime’ appeared in Yellowstone back in Season 2 in 2019, years before Wilson eventually made her acting debut as musician Abby in Season 5 in November 2022. So while appearing on one of television’s biggest shows undoubtedly introduced her to a whole new audience, Yellowstone didn’t launch Wilson’s career - country music was already doing that.

After impressing on Yellowstone, Wilson secured a high-profile role in the movie adaptation of Colleen Hoover's book, Reminders Of Him, which was released earlier this year.

For someone who grew up dreaming purely of being a country singer-songwriter, it’s turning into quite the resumé. Singer, songwriter, performer, host, movie actress and now sitcom star.

It may sound quite niche, but the singer-songwriter/entertainer-turned-actor route isn’t new to Nashville. Wilson is in fantastic company, in fact we’d struggle to list every single one in the article, it’s that extensive. But for over 90 years, country artists have been making the leap from music into acting, dating right back to Gene Autry’s first screen appearance in 1934. Since then, more than 30 major country and Nashville artists have followed, from the likes of Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash to Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire, Kris Kristofferson and Tim McGraw.

And now, it’s Wilson's turn.

Season 2 of Leanne arrives on Netflix on 27th August.
