While backstage at the 2023 CMA Awards, before taking her Entertainer of the Year title, Lainey Wilson spoke to Audacy's Mo & StyckMan about her fellow CMA Award winner, HARDY.
Ahead of the ceremony, Lainey and HARDY picked up 2023 CMA awards for Musical Event of the Year and Music Video of the Year, in honour of their celebrated duet, ‘wait in the truck’.
Lainey underlined how “proud” she is of her Mississippi buddy, before heartwarmingly sharing how their mothers have unexpectedly become really close pals.
The ‘Watermelon Moonshine’ hitmaker revealed, “My mama and his mama, they’re like the best of friends. They’re sittin’ together at the CMA Awards… The other day, I walked in, and my mama was gettin’ a recipe from somebody on the phone. I said, ‘Who was that?’ And she said, ‘Oh, that was HARDY’s mom‘”.
Lainey Wilson went on to joke how even her and HARDY don't share that kind of relationship, “Me and HARDY don’t even talk like that! It’s like, ‘I’ll see ya when I see ya, brother’”.
Elsewhere during the discussion, Lainey Wilson emphasised how hard she's been working over the past few years, “We've been busted our tails, that't the nicest way to say it”.
She outlined how she's played ”about 185 shows probably this year and last year too, so it's been about 400 shows in the past two years! But it's been incredible, I mean, these are the moments that we were hoping for and praying for and they're here”.
At the 2023 CMA Awards, alongside Entertainer of the Year, Lainey Wilson took home the accolades for Female Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year, as well as taking the stage for a fiery, charismatic rendition of her latest single, ‘Wildflowers and Wild Horses’.
