Lainey Wilson continued her successful evening at the Bridgestone Arena by deservedly taking home the coveted 2023 CMA Female Vocalist of the Year accolade.
In her acceptance speech, the Louisiana native paid tribute to her fellow female artists, “This is for all the hard working ladies that I know, and that I don't know. I see you”.
Lainey addressed her swathes of younger listeners with a powerful message, “For all you little girls watching...I'm getting up every single day and I'm looking in the mirror and saying, ‘I'm beautiful’ and ‘I'm smart’...if somebody tells me I can't do it, hold my beer and watch this”.
The ‘Watermelon Moonshine’ hitmaker went on to underline, “Thank you so much for letting me be a part of that, and here's to all the ladies that blaze trails every single damn day of their life”.
Competition this year was particularly fierce, in a group consisting of country heavyweights - and frequent collaborators - Kelsea Ballerini, Miranda Lambert, Ashley McBryde, Carly Pearce and Lainey Wilson.
Performances at the Awards included a Jimmy Buffett tribute from Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band, Mac MacAnally and Alan Jackson, Jelly Roll with 'Need a Favor', Kelsea Ballerini with 'Leave Me Again', Morgan Wallen and Eric Church with ‘Man Made A Bar’ and many more.
