After a whirlwind year, country darling Kelsea Ballerini is capping off 2023 – and her celebrated Rolling Up The Welcome Mat era – with one final gift to fans in the form of her 'How Do I Do This' music video.
Earlier this week, the Knoxville native appeared for a second time on the hugely successful Call Her Daddy podcast with host Alex Cooper.
Following the initial frenzy of headlines and social media reactions, Ballerini told fans on Instagram that she had "one more thing" up her sleeve before the year's end, eventually revealing the new video for 'How Do I Do This'.
Opening up with the words "The Last Chapter" fading on and off the screen, signaling that this will be the last piece from Rolling Up The Welcome Mat, the video gives a glimpse into the song's origins.
Included on the deluxe version of RUTWM, the song's lyrics depict Ballerini's internal monologue as it pertains to her first encounter and date with current beau and Outer Banks star, Chase Stokes.
Showing Ballerini as she gets ready for her date, the video brings to life the nervousness every girl feels before a first date, from the personal fashion show to find the perfect outfit – which in Ballerini's case included both a blue and yellow gown before she landed on the signature "little black dress" that's referenced in the chorus – to going through full glam (and maybe a self-inflicted haircut).
Almost playing out like a beloved romcom, the video ends as her doorbell rings, she grabs her purse and takes a few seconds to look at herself in the mirror. Though we can't hear the little voice in her head, we can almost imagine the pep talk she's giving herself as she steps into a new personal and romantic chapter.
Earlier this week, the 'Penthouse' tunesmith surprised fans by performing a brand new unreleased song during her Grand Ole Opry performance.
Entitled ‘To The Men Who Love Women After Heartbreak’, the new song serves as a tribute to those unafraid of picking up the pieces when they fall for someone still reeling from heartbreak.
The track, which signals that new music is on the way sooner rather than later, shows that the young superstar is in the midst of a new, happier era, both personally and musically, and we can't wait to hear more.
