During a conversation with Etalk, Kacey Musgraves has finally confirmed what many fans had suspected - that she has an unreleased collaboration with pop phenom Justin Bieber. Excitingly, Musgraves hints that she hopes it will ultimately be released.

When asked about the prospect of working with Bieber, Musgraves enthusiastically responds, ‘Yeah, of course. We worked on a song at one point together...It's pretty rad”.

The ‘Dry Spell’ singer-songwriter goes on to tease that the song might eventually be made available, “Hopefully, I don't know, maybe somebody it'll see the light of day”.

This star-studded collaboration has been a rumour among fans for a few years now, with a since-deleted snippet of the apparent duet surfacing on Reddit in 2025. That post claims the song features John Mayer, and that it's called ‘Wake Up Next to You’.

Back in 2021, Musgraves revealed she was friends with Bieber, with the latter famously video-calling her during an interview with The New York Times. Musgraves answered, quipping, “You freaking love an unannounced FaceTime, dude”, with Bieber replying, “My bad. What are you guys doing?” After they hang up, Musgraves explains, “I’ll be lying in bed, hung over at 8am - FaceTime. It’s a decline for me, but he’s so sweet”, before declaring, “Anyway. New friend”.

‘Wake Up Next to You’ with Musgraves wouldn't be the first time Bieber has experimented with country music, with the ‘What Do You Mean?’ hitmaker collaborating with Dan + Shay on the massive hit, ‘10,000 Hours’, in 2019, before teaming up with Florida Georgia Line the following year for a surprise remix of ‘Yummy’. And back in 2011, of course, Bieber recruited Rascal Flatts for ‘That Should Be Me’.

Musgraves, by the same token, has made a point of blurring the lines between genres throughout her career, even dropping a full-blown pop project - at least in the eyes of the GRAMMYs’ - with star-crossed. More recently, the Texas native joined forces with Mexican music trailblazer Carín León for the infectious ‘Lost in Translation’.

With Musgraves having just released a stellar new album, Middle of Nowhere, and Bieber believed to be readying a massive World Tour following his momentous Coachella performances, it feels like the timing isn't quite right for ‘Wake Up Next to You’.

But we'll be keeping our fingers crossed that the day comes, whether it's later this year or next decade, when we finally get to hear the full version of this blockbuster collaboration.
